A little detail on what the fields mean and what should go in there would be helpful.

Lori, I've updated the article to better indicate what the fields are designed for. Hope that helps.

    Good Morning,

I have a question concerning the use of market segments. For me the use of market segments like it is described in this article doesn´t make any sense, because if we cannot change the group, category and class individually, I don´t see too much, why we should use them.

For instance we have a market segment F&B, so i would divide my accounts into groups --> like group press, group visitors and group exhibitors.

and the category maye the priority like A, B, C status accounts.

I hope it´sunderstable where i wanna go? But I am happy if you fill me in, if i missunderstood this funtions of market segments.

    Cheers

    Christine

    Hi Christine,

You don't have to use all the market segment levels nor are the market segment levels dependent upon each other. You can assign the group, category and class to an account in any way you desire. Using the example in the article, you could have the following configured:

    Market Segment Groups: Education, Camps
Market Segment Categories: Public, Private, Parochial
Market Segment Classes: K-12, Early Childhood, Higher Education
Market Segments: Elementary, Middle School, High School, College, Pre-School, Infant/Toddler

And then you could assign your accounts to any Group/Category/Class/Segment combination that it applies to. For example:

Account 1 - Education, Private, Early Childhood, Pre-School
Account 2 - Education, Public, Early Childhood, Infant/Toddler

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks,
    Maggie

Hi. I am confused about Major/Minor. Can I remove this as a required field? If not, what should i use as the code? I'm new to the community. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Karen Shao Coberly! I'm so sorry it's taken me a little bit to get back to you - I wanted to make sure I had accurate information.

The major/minor fields are some of the original ways that were used to organize your market segments, and much of that functionality is now covered by groups, categories, and classes. As a result, if you do not need these fields for your reporting you can just copy your description into both the major and minor fields.

If you'd like to share your feedback about how you don't have a need for those fields and would prefer them not to be required, please share that with our product team in the product forums!
