Your online registration users can have the option to select the language they want to use when registering so the web pages and registration options show in their preferred language. To use multiple languages, you must have the languages you want to offer already configured in the Languages screen and have your system configured to use alternate descriptions.
Configure Multiple Languages for the Registration
When you configure multiple languages for online registration, you assign a dictionary to each language in the registration configuration. This dictionary is used to show the standard system phrases in the language you select.
- Click the Events link from the Main Menu. The Events page opens.
- Select the event for the multi-language registration.
- Right-click and select Tools -> Registration Setup. The Registration Setup window opens.
- Select the Languages tab.
- Click the Add button. The Add Public Language window opens.
- Enter the necessary information:
- Language - Language for the online registration.
- Dictionary - Dictionary for the online registration.
- Description to Use - Alternate description to use for the online registration.
- Region - Regional settings to use for online registration.
- Default Language - If checked, the language is used the first time a registrant accesses the registration site if the URL they used does not include the language parameter.
- Click OK.
Translate Registration Options to Different Languages
When you configure multiple languages for online registration, you assign the description you want to use for the additional registration options that are not in the system dictionary, such as registrant type descriptions and registration functions descriptions. You manage these translations using alternate descriptions.
The below instructions assume registrant types, functions and alternate descriptions are already configured.
To enter alternate descriptions for registrant types:
- Click the Events link from the Main Menu. The Events page opens.
- Select the event with the registrant types to add alternate descriptions.
- Right-click and select Tools -> Registration Setup. The Registration Setup window opens.
- Select the Pricing tab.
- Expand the Registrant Types section.
- Select an existing registrant type.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Event Registrant Type window opens.
- Click the Edit Layout link in the bottom right of the screen. The Edit Layout window opens.
- Locate the Alternate Item Description fields. You may have up to five available depending on how many alternate descriptions you have configured.
- Select the alternate description field and drag and drop it in the desired location in the Layout Sections area of the Edit Layout screen.
- Repeat step 10 for any additional alternate description fields.
- Click OK. You return to the Edit Registrant Type window.
- Enter the desired descriptions into the applicable alternate description(s) fields.
- Click OK.
To enter alternate descriptions for registration functions:
- Click the Events link from the Main Menu. The Events page opens.
- Select the event with the registrant types to add alternate descriptions.
- Right-click and select Tools -> Registration Setup. The Registration Setup window opens.
- Select the Pricing tab.
- Expand the Registration Functions section.
- Select an existing registration function.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Registration Function window opens.
- Click the Edit Layout link in the bottom right of the screen. The Edit Layout window opens.
- Locate the Alternate Item Description and Alternate Description fields. You may have up to five available depending on how many alternate descriptions you have configured.
- Select the alternate description field and drag and drop it in the desired location in the Layout Sections area of the Edit Layout window.
- Repeat step 10 for any additional alternate description fields.
- Click OK. You return to the Edit Registrant Type window.
- Enter the desired descriptions into the applicable alternate description(s) fields.
- Click OK.
Registration URL Links for Specific Languages
When using multiple languages for online registration, you may want to create a registration link for each available. For example, when you have an online registration that allows the registrant to select between English and German, you may want to create a link that only shows the English registration and a link that only shows the German registration so the registrant does not have to choose which one to use.
To create a language specific URL, add the Language URL parameter to the URL on the Web Links tab on the Registration Setup screen. See Custom Registration Web Links for more information.

When I click "Configure Multiple Dictionaries" I only see English and French. Is there a Spanish option?

Hi Chuck!
Before anything, let's try this: Find the “Dictionary Upgrade Utility (v19)” in the main menu, and launch it. It will show you all available languages and what is installed or not installed. If Spanish shows up as not installed, check the ‘Install’ checkbox, hit OK, and then you'll have Spanish.
If that doesn't work, let me know and we'll get you some additional help.
Thanks,
Carrie

Hi if we don't have other language activated in Ungerboeck backoffice, can we have different language on registration page?

Hi Aubrey,
You will need to have Languages set up to use multiple dictionaries in registration. If the only language you have set up is English, for example, you won't be able to configure additional dictionaries in registration. This is because there won't be any other languages to enable in registration to set the dictionary.
Hope this helps!

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your prompt response. We don't have other languages set up at the moment. Not sure whether you know what are the steps to set up other languages?
Thanks,
Aubrey

Hi Aubrey,
Languages can be added from the Languages screen from the Main Menu. It's pretty simple to add one, you just need to give it a code, description, which default dictionary to use, and which default preference to use (primary, alt description 1, alt description 2, etc).
Thanks,
Mike

Hi, All.
Does anyone know where the "Translate" function disappeared to? I'm actually on v30.96.
Thanks

Hi Hannes,
In .96, we've moved the dictionary configuration to the Languages tab so that Registration is similar to the other public applications. If you do not have this tab on your registration setup window, you may need to add it to your layout.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,
Mike
