Typically when we talk about using iEBMS Presentation files in Enterprise, we talk about importing them into, and exporting them out of, the database. There is an alternative to this, which involves storing the iEBMS Presentation files within the File System.
There are pros and cons to both approaches (which I have labeled File System and Database), some of which are detailed below:
File System
- You must have the appropriate file system access permissions. This typically means that you need to have access to your Web Server and be able to save files there.
- You must configure the iEBMS Web Configuration executable correctly to enable this feature.
- You must name the appropriate folders and files correctly for them to work.
- You can use familiar editing tools such as DreamWeaver or MS Visual Studio to edit the files directly, without having to import/export the files into/out of the database.
Database
- You do not need to have any special file system access permissions.
- You must configure the iEBMS Web Configuration executable correctly to enable this feature.
- You do not need to know the exact folder or file names as the system takes care of this when you import the files.
- To edit the iEBMS Presentation files, you must export them, edit the files, and then import them back into the database.
The general recommendation is to use the Database approach, however if you would like to save the iEBMS Presentation files within the File System, please consult with Momentus Support Services to determine if this would be beneficial with your particular situation.
