You can use Price Classes to automatically assign a price list to a service order based on the price class for the order account. Price classes are usually used when a particular group of accounts qualifies for special pricing (for example, members receiving a different rate than non-members). You can also use price classes to discount/surcharge items. See Price List Discounts and Surcharges for more information.
Price classes are best used when multiple price lists are used for an event. You can add multiple price lists for an event on the Add/Edit Event screen in the Price Lists field.
Activate the Price Class Parameter
To use price classes, you need to make the Use Price Classes for Service Orders parameter active.
- Click the Event Management Configuration link from the Main Menu. The Event Management Configuration screen opens.
- Select the Orders tab.
- Check the Use Price Classes When Adding Orders check box.
- Click OK.
Configure the Price Classes
Now you can configure the price classes. The price classes are the groups of accounts that need the special pricing. For example, Members or Gold Sponsors.
- Click the Price Classes link from the Main Menu. The Price Classes screen opens.
- Click the Add button. The Add Price Class screen opens.
- Enter the necessary information:
- Description - Name of the price class used when selecting a price class for an account.
- Abbreviated Description - Shortened description used on screens within the system.
- Code - Unique alphanumeric code used by the system.
- Retire - If checked, the price class is not available for selection on the Add/Edit Account screen.
- Click OK.
- Repeat steps 2-4 to add all necessary price classes.
Assign a Price Class to a Price List
After configuring the price class(es), you need to assign them to the appropriate price list(s).
- Click the Price Lists link from the Main Menu. The Price Lists screen opens.
- Select the price list for the price class.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Price List screen opens.
- Select the price class from the Price Class drop-down. You may need to add this field to your screen layout if it is not available.
- Click OK.
Assign a Price Class to an Account
When you assign a price class to an account, the system uses the price list for the assigned price class when adding a service order for the account.
- Click the Accounts link for the appropriate designation of the account from the Main Menu. The Accounts screen opens.
- Select the account to assign the price class.
- Right-click and select View -> A/R Demographics. The A/R Demographics screen opens.
- Select the price class for the account from the Price Class drop-down.
- Click OK.
After all configuration is complete, when a service order is added for an account and the price list is available for the event, the price list assigned to the price class of the account is used.

Thanks Maggie, found it and did it, but now the discount isn't showing or working, am I missing a step? We want to use the price class as a discount marker for specific customers. Maybe this is not the right way of using it?

Hi,
The directions above don't automatically give a discount - it only controls what price list is used for an account when a service order is added. The price list you connect to the price class could have lower prices so in that sense, it would be a "discount" but the system won't automatically apply a discount based on a price class using the above configuration.
However, it is possible to discount items based on price class.
Thanks,
Maggie
