Affiliations are used to assign attributes to accounts or contacts. You can use these attributes for searching or creating account and contact lists that meet certain criteria. For example, assign a VIP affiliation to your most important accounts and contacts, or assign a Newsletter affiliation to designate the contacts who subscribe to your organization's newsletter.
This article describes the processes for managing and using affiliations with accounts and contacts. See Manage Affiliations for details on creating and maintaining affiliations.

Can you move an affiliation code from a contact to it's corresponding company?

Sean,
To the best of my knowledge, affiliations are individual to the company or the contact. They do not carry over. If you add an affiliation to an account, it will not be automatically added to the contacts associated with that account, and vice-versa.

Is it possible to see when an affiliation was last used or assigned to an account/contact.

Kris, unfortunately we don't track that information for affiliations.

Hi Kris,
If you can get to the table EV897_ACCT_AFFIL then there are the standard Entered, Updated columns in there. Would probably have to be a custom report.

Hi Kris,
You will need to use Campaigns with a B2B step. Are you familiar with what this does and how to use it?
Essentially it is a mini campaign that returns contacts for the Accounts in the campaign. Shout out if you need any further help. (I did write a detailed response but it didn't save!)

Hi,
The above step of removing the affiliation and assigning an affiliation to the existing account isn't working for me as the Affiliation field is locked itself. Not too sure if I am missing out on something but I have check the roles and the access sections as well which should allow to simply remove the affiliation or add if any.
Any suggestions here?
Thanks - H

Hello Himanshu!
I am having issues uploading a screen shot, but are you looking at Affiliations as a field on the Edit Account window or are you looking at Affiliations as a tab/section?
If you are on the Edit Account window looking at Affiliations as a field, then yes, the field is locked. It is simply there to display the Affiliations on an account.
To add/delete Affiliations, you need to go to the Affiliations tab/section on the Edit Account window. On the Affiliations tab/section, you would click Select to add affiliations and you would right click or row action Mark as Delete on those Affiliations you would like to remove from the Account.

Hi Kaitlyn,
I have also found that users get tripped up by this UI - it's a little confusing. Perhaps an easy solution would be to make the field name 'Affiliations' a hyperlink leading to the same place as the 'Select' button on the tab.

Hi Kaitlyn,
Thanks heaps for the snapshot and the help on this.
I agree it's a bit tricky to find this one out and agree to what you say "hyperlink" it, so that it directs you straight on the tab itself of editing/deleting the old affiliations. (Yes, I was referring to the affiliation field under an account).
Cheers

Hi Kaitlyn
I've entered affiliations against Contacts however I'm unable to pull up a list when using the 'affiliations' filter. It only seems to work if I enter the affiliation against the Account as well - which is double handling.
Any suggestions?

Hi Anna,
Can you provide your work flow and specifically which window you are trying to use the affiliation filter?
If you have assigned Affiliations to Contacts, then you will need to go to the Contacts window (from either off of the global navigation bar or off the main menu) and utilize the Affiliations filter from here.
See screen shot below.
