Space diagrams are building line drawings of your spaces. Each space you want to use room diagrams with must have an empty space diagram (building lines only) and as many room layout diagrams as needed (space diagrams with diagram items). You may have some smaller spaces that do no require any room layouts while some larger halls may have dozens of room layouts for the different configurations available.
For the empty space diagram, you can import a DWG file (recommended) or you can draw the building lines manually.
To create an empty space diagram for a space by importing a DWG file:
- Click the Spaces link from the Main Menu. The Spaces page opens.
- Select the space for the space diagram.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Space window opens.
- Select the Space Diagrams tab.
- Click the Add button. The Add Space Diagram window opens.
- Enter the necessary information:
- Description - Name for the space diagram.
- Drawing Units - Measurement value used for the space diagram.
- Setup - Leave blank for the empty space diagram.
- This is the Building Space Diagram - If checked, the space diagram is the empty space diagram. This diagram is then used as a reference for room layouts. Each space can only have one diagram with this check box checked.
- Click the Create Diagram and Begin Editing link. The Edit Space Diagram window opens.
- Click the File button in the upper left corner of the window.
- Select Import from DWG. The Import window opens.
- Click the Choose Files button. The Open window opens.
- Select the DWG file to import. Make sure the DWG file is cleaned before importing it into the space diagram as uncleaned files may not perform as expected.
- Click the Open button.
- Select the measurement value used for the file from the Select units in DWG file drop-down. You may select a different value than what you selected in step 6.
- Expand the Advanced Layer Mapping section to select the layers to import.
- Click the Insert Row link. A new row inserts into the grid.
- File Layers – Layers from the .DWG file you want to display in the empty space diagram.
- Layer Description – Defaults when selecting the layer.
- To add additional layers, right-click on the current row and select Insert Row.
- Click OK. The empty space diagram is created.
To create an empty space diagram for a space by drawing it manually:
- Click the Spaces link from the Main Menu. The Spaces page opens.
- Select the space for the space diagram.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Space window opens.
- Select the Space Diagrams tab.
- Click the Add button. The Add Space Diagram window opens.
- Enter the necessary information:
- Description - Name for the space diagram.
- Drawing Units - Measurement value used for the space diagram.
- Setup - Leave blank for an empty space diagram.
- This is the Building Space Diagram - If checked, the space diagram is the empty space diagram. This diagram is then used as a reference for space layouts and all room diagrams for the space. Each space can only have one diagram with this check box checked.
- Click the Create Diagram and Begin Editing link. The Edit Space Diagram window opens.
- Using the tools in the tool bar, create the empty space diagram. See Room Diagrams for details on the available tools.
- Once complete, click OK.
Now that the empty space diagram is created, you can create your additional room layouts if needed. To create an additional room layout:
- Click the Spaces link from the Main Menu. The Spaces page opens.
- Select the space for the room layout.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Space window opens.
- Select the Space Diagrams tab.
- Click the Add button. The Add Space Diagram window opens.
- Enter the necessary information:
- Description - Name for the room layout.
- Drawing Units - Measurement value used for the layout.
- Setup - Setup for the room layout. Informational purposes only.
- This is the Building Space Diagram - Leave unchecked.
- Click the Create Diagram and Begin Editing link. The Edit Space Diagram window opens with the empty space diagram loaded into the screen.
- Click on a diagram item on the left side of the page to insert it into the diagram.
- Drag and drop it to the desired location in the diagram.
- Repeat steps 8 and 9 for each diagram item you want to include.
- Once complete, click OK. You can now use this room layout for room diagrams for this space.
Copy Space Diagrams
You can copy space diagrams within a space or to another space. This makes it easy to create similar space diagrams. If you copy a space diagram to a different space, you may need to move your diagram items to fit them into the building lines for the space.
To copy a space diagram:
- Click the Spaces link from the Main Menu. The Spaces page opens.
- Select the space with the space diagram to copy.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Space window opens.
- Select the Space Diagrams tab.
- Select the space diagram to copy.
- Right-click and select File -> Copy Space Diagram. The Copy Space Diagram window opens.
- Enter a name for the new space diagram into the Description field.
- Select the space to assign the space diagram from the Space drop-down.
- Select a setup, if needed, to the space diagram.
- Click OK.
