You can create service orders that do not require functions. Since there is no function assigned to the service order, the service order items do not have a function assigned either. This allows you select a function for each individual item, if desired.
To no longer require a function for a service order, you need to configure organization parameter FF ESO. You only need to do this one time.
- Click the Organization Parameters link from the Main Menu. The Organization Parameters screen opens.
- Select organization parameter FF (application) ESO (code).
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Organization Parameter screen opens.
- Enter a Y into the Value field.
- Click OK.
With the organization parameter set to Y, you can create new service orders without functions. This results in service order items without assigned functions. You can individually assign a function to each service order item.
If you assign a function to a package header, the function is assigned to all items within that package. However, if a package item is already assigned a function, assigning a function to the package header does not override the function selected for the package item.

Is there a way to assign a space to a service order or service order item without selecting a function if this parameter is turned on? We would like to get away from building a function for equipment for each room. I am wondering if this new parameter is a solution for that... Thanks!

This functionality will allow a different space to be selected on each item without a function attached. If you need certain items on a function, you are able to put some items on a function and other items without a function. This options should work for you use case!

Thanks for the follow-up Tyler. I turned on the parameter in our development environment which is on .98C and I could not determine how I could select a space at the item level. I see a field labled Space-Item but it is not an editable field. I appreciate your help.

The field you're looking for is 'Space' within the Service Order Item window. If you don't see it appear, check you layout to pull it onto the window.

Can anyone share the workflow they may have around this functionality.
I like the functionality but dont see any 'standard' UB reports to effectively utilise like a work order and / or service order confirmation. Im thinking a custom report is required based on the venue workflow.

Hi Missy,
I'm happy to assist here. I will just need a little bit more information on specifically what type of information you are wanting to gather. Once I have that, we can look for a report that may fit what you are needing.
Thanks!

@... thanks for your reply. Do you know of any other venue as yet using this order ? If so, can you share the workflow and output report (ie standard or custom)?

Hi Missy,
The main workflow I have come across so far is if there are service orders that have Items that need to extend across several functions. For example, if there is one service order that has AV or security equipment that needs to be attached to other functions.
Let's see if any other venues can contribute any input to this post. In the meantime, let me know if you have additional questions for me.
Thanks!
Matt

I love this idea but would like suggestions on controlling this - I could be missing something - we don't want everyone to have this ability - it's just plain dangerous. Is there a role that governs who or what process can create non function orders? We can go down the road of role based field privileges but, in a past life we found these hard to drive reliably.
