Gender Identities, Salutations, Prefixes and Suffixes are used with contacts (individual accounts). If you wish to specify a gender identity for prefixes, suffixes, or salutations, be sure to configure those first. You must configure prefixes and suffixes before you configure salutations.
If you use salutations, prefixes and suffixes based on language, you must first configure the following:
- Allow Alternate Description Usage on the Organization Configuration page.
- Languages on the Languages page.
- Verify the Language field is active and available on the applicable contact.

Gender Identities
Gender Identities allow you to create your own custom gender options for selection within the software and public-facing applications.
To add a new gender identity:
- Navigate to the Gender Identities page and click Add. The Add Gender Identity window opens.
- In the Description field, enter the name of the gender identity. This description is visible to all users.
- In the Abbreviated Code field, enter a short code. This is for system purposes only.
- Click OK.
You cannot replace or delete gender identities.
Prefixes
Prefixes are commonly used for surname prefixes, for example Mr. or Ms. You can configure different prefixes according to the preferred language and gender of the individual.

Edit a Prefix
The information for a prefix can be edited after it has been created. When the information for a prefix is edited, it does not update prefixes already assigned to individuals. - Select the prefix to edit.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Prefix window opens.

- Navigate to the Salutations page and click Prefixes. The Prefixes page opens.
- Select the prefix to delete.
- Right-click and select Mark for Delete.

- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Suffix window opens.

how do I add Gender?

Hi Mudit,
Gender is currently not configurable. This is something that has been discussed and is something we are looking at closely but I don't have a timeline on when it will be addressed.
Thanks,
Maggie

Thanks Maggie,
I understand the gender value is set with the EV872_Prefix code, this appears there are no other columns / tables in Data Model where the gender value is stored but programmed based on prefix table, is this correct?

Hi Mudit,
The Gender drop-down doesn't have a master table associated with it. It's just a hard-coded list to choose from. It is associated it with the Prefix table so you could default gender based on a selected prefix (although this isn't required).
Thanks,
Maggie

Dear Maggie,
We need to add further gender choices in our registration. You mentioned this is hard coded, does that mean we cannot add it ourselves?
Thanks , Adela

Hi Adela,
You are correct - since it's hard coded, additional options can't be added to the list.
Thanks,
Maggie

This allows registrants to select only one suffix (post nom). Can we configure to allow multiple? (e.g OBE AO)

As the field is stored in EV870 it's a one to one relationship so you won't be able to do this out of the box. Your best bet would be to configure a UDF which allows multiple then hide the standard field

Thanks Lee, that's what we have done. UDF with multiple validation.
