Salutations, prefixes and suffixes are only used with contacts (individual accounts). Salutations, prefixes and suffixes are all configured from the Salutations page. You must configure prefixes and suffixes before you configure salutations.
If you use salutations, prefixes and suffixes based on language, you must first configure the following:
- Allow Alternate Description Usage on the Organization Configuration page
- Languages in the Languages page
- Verify the Language field is active and available on the applicable contact
Prefixes
Prefixes are commonly used for surname prefixes, for example Mr. or Ms. You can configure different prefixes according to the preferred language and gender of the individual.
Add a Prefix
- In the Main Menu, search for and select Salutations. The Salutations page opens.
- Click Prefixes. The Prefixes page opens.
- Click Add. The Add Prefix window opens.
- Enter the following information:
- Prefix - Prefix to use. For example, Mr.
- Gender - Gender that applies to the prefix.
- Language - Language that applies to the prefix.
- Click OK. The prefix is available for selection in the Prefix drop-down for contacts who match the gender and language requirements.
Change a Prefix
You can change the information for a prefix after you have already created it. When you change the information for a prefix, it does not update prefixes already assigned to individuals. For example, if you change the gender for a prefix, it does not remove the prefix from individuals who are already assigned the prefix based on the original gender setting.
- In the Main Menu, search for and select Salutations. The Salutations page opens.
- Click Prefixes. The Prefixes page opens.
- Select the prefix to edit.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Prefix window opens.
- Make the necessary changes.
- Click OK.
Delete a Prefix
If you want to remove a prefix completely, you can delete it. Once a prefix is deleted, you cannot recover it. When you delete a prefix already assigned to an individual, the prefix is not deleted from the individual. It remains assigned to the individual until you manually remove it.
- In the Main Menu, search for and select Salutations. The Salutations page opens.
- Click Prefixes. The Prefixes page opens.
- Select the prefix to delete.
- Right-click and select Mark for Delete.
- Click Save.

Add a Suffix

- Click Suffices. The Suffixes page opens.
- Click Add. The Add Suffix window opens.
- Enter the following information:
- Suffix - Suffix to use. For example, CMP.
- Gender - Gender that applies to the suffix.
- Language - Language that applies to the suffix.
- Click OK. The suffix is available for selection in the Suffix drop-down for contacts who match the gender and language requirements.

- Click Suffixes. The Suffixes page opens.
- Select the suffix to edit.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Suffix window opens.

- Click Suffices. The Suffixes page opens.
- Select the suffix to delete.
- Right-click and select Mark for Delete.

how do I add Gender?

Hi Mudit,
Gender is currently not configurable. This is something that has been discussed and is something we are looking at closely but I don't have a timeline on when it will be addressed.
Thanks,
Maggie

Thanks Maggie,
I understand the gender value is set with the EV872_Prefix code, this appears there are no other columns / tables in Data Model where the gender value is stored but programmed based on prefix table, is this correct?

Hi Mudit,
The Gender drop-down doesn't have a master table associated with it. It's just a hard-coded list to choose from. It is associated it with the Prefix table so you could default gender based on a selected prefix (although this isn't required).
Thanks,
Maggie

Dear Maggie,
We need to add further gender choices in our registration. You mentioned this is hard coded, does that mean we cannot add it ourselves?
Thanks , Adela

Hi Adela,
You are correct - since it's hard coded, additional options can't be added to the list.
Thanks,
Maggie

This allows registrants to select only one suffix (post nom). Can we configure to allow multiple? (e.g OBE AO)

As the field is stored in EV870 it's a one to one relationship so you won't be able to do this out of the box. Your best bet would be to configure a UDF which allows multiple then hide the standard field

Thanks Lee, that's what we have done. UDF with multiple validation.
