Membership was rewritten in v30.97 to use a new process. For continuity purposes, the previous Membership functionality remains available but is referred to as Legacy Membership. In v30.97 and later, membership functionality is referred to as Membership.
There are several membership fields you can include in the Legacy Membership Information tab/section for accounts and contacts.
- Legacy Member Since – Date the account or contact first became a member.
- Legacy Member Status – Current status of the member. Automatically updates to Active when a standing membership order is processed to create a membership order. The Member Status field does not automatically update when the membership expires.
- Legacy Member Status Date – Date of the most recent change to the Member Status field.
- Legacy Member Inactive Date – Date when the Member Status was set to Inactive. You cannot manually change this field.
- Legacy Member Rank – Numeric member rank value.
- Legacy Member Type – Member type for the membership order.
- Legacy Member Type Date – Date the current Membership Type was selected.
- Legacy Member Category – Category for the membership type. Often used for reporting purposes (for example individual vs. group memberships).
- Legacy Member Category Date – Date the current Member Category was selected.
- Legacy Member Reason – Cancellation reason or the reason a membership lapsed.
Membership Account Status and Legacy Member Status
The Membership Account Status designates whether the account itself is Active, Inactive, Prospective or N/A in Membership. This field is named Membership and is located by default in the Account Status section on the Details tab of the Edit Account/Edit Contact screen.
The Legacy Member Status is an additional field for an account/contact for the current state of a member's status. You can set this field to Active, Inactive, Prospective or Waitlist. This field is located by default in the Legacy Member Information section of the Edit Account/Edit Contact screen on the Details tab.

Why is is that the Member Status field does not automatically update upon expiration of the membership? Fairly core and mandatory functionality for any memebership system. What is Ungerboeck's recommended action/solution for this?

Why is it that the Membership Status automatically updates to Active when a standing membership order is processed to create a membership order.?
You generate an order, but it hasn't been paid. The membership is not Active until the order has been paid.
What is Ungerboeck's recommended action/process to fix this?

Hello Jason,
The Member Status field does not automatically update upon expiration because expiration of the membership does not necessarily mean that membership benefits are discontinued. Our clients tend to have very different philosophies and practices in regards to cutting off membership benefits. Many membership providers offer a grace period for renewal after membership expiration, during which time they continue to extend membership benefits
For clients that immediately discontinue membership benefits, the Ungerboeck Technical Services team assists and is able to have the Member Status field update at expiration.
Regards,
Sam Wilson
