Indicators are items tracked in the sustainability module, such as monthly carbon emissions, water use, reduction of food waste, and more. Indicators include targets to be met at fixed points in the future and the frequency you will track them.
Indicators can be added in bulk using WeTrack's Import Manager.
To add an indicator:
- On the Indicators page, click +Add in the upper-right corner.
- Describe the indicator:
- Indicator Title: Name the indicator.
- Category: Select the indicator category.
- GHG Category: A single select dropdown of GHG categories, relative to GHG reporting requirements which will be saved against the indicator.
- Pillar: A single select dropdown of ESG Pillars.
- Reporting Directive: A list of regional reporting directives which this indicator can be tagged with.
- Scope:
- Scope 1: Direct emissions created by your organization, such as gas use at owned venues or fuel use in company owned vehicles or equipment.
- Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity use, or other energy purchased for heating, cooling, and other use.
- Scope 3: Other indirect emissions, including purchased goods and services (catering, cleaning, and so on), capital goods, trucking, waste from operations, business travel, and more. Often the majority of an organization's indicators will be Scope 3.
- Priority: Select the number of starts to represent the importance of this indicator.
- UN Sustainability Goals: Select the applicable United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
- Description: Add a description of the indicator.
- When all information has been added, click Continue.
- Assign and tag the indicator:
- Assign the indicator to its Owners, Department, and Functional Area.
- Assign any tags.
- When all information has been added, click Continue.
- Choose how this indicator will be tracked:
- Pass/Fail (Audit) Tracking: The indicator is either met or not.
- Numerical Tracking: This indicator will be tracked periodically and achieved over time.
- Expected Direction: Is your goal to increase or decrease this metric?
- Unit Type: How are you measuring this indicator? The unit type will determine the available units when an update is added.
- Default Unit: Choose the default unit. Users will be able to select a different unit when adding an update if needed.
- Convert Value To: No matter the unit used, the update will be converted to this unit.
- Click Continue.
- Enter tracking frequency (Numerical Tracking only):
- Add how often the indicator should be updated, such as every 7 days or every 1 month.
- Enter dates to start and end tracking.
The owner of the indicator will be notified whenever an update is due.
- Click Continue.
- Choose whether you would like to track carbon emissions or not. If you will track carbon emissions:
- Select your region. If a region is set in the Sustainability settings, it will be preselected.
- Select the source (the methodology used to track emissions). If a source is set in the Sustainability settings, it will be preselected.
- Search for and select the appropriate emissions factors.
- Click Create Indicator.
