System Parameter AA 928 (Restrict Number of Windows Open) allows an administrator to control, from a system level, the maximum number of windows that remain open within the taskbar at any given time. This parameter helps restrict memory usage and therefore boosts performance on most systems.
If the number of opened windows is greater than the value entered into the parameter, then the oldest unused window in the taskbar closes automatically as long as there are no pending changes for the window.
For example, if the system parameter is set to 5, when the 6th window opens, then the oldest unused window closes automatically.
The system parameter defaults to 10 if the system parameter is not present. It is recommended you add this parameter and set it to a value less than 10. A value of 8 is recommended. The value cannot exceed 20.
To add the system parameter:
- Click the System Parameters link from the Main Menu. The System Parameters screen opens.
- Click the Add button. The Add System Parameter screen opens.
- Enter the following information:
- Application - AA
- Code - 928
- Parameter Description - Restrict Number of Windows Open
- Amount - 8
- Click OK.
