Access exceptions apply to the sections/tabs, columns/fields and actions in the software. You use access exceptions to further define access after you assign features to roles(s). You can use access exceptions to:
- Deny access to a section/tab, column/field or action within a feature assigned to a role.
- Grant access to a section/tab, column/field or action that is part of a feature you have not assigned to a role.
Any time you deny access to a section/tab, column/field or action, it overrides any other setting that may grant a user access. If you deny access to an action, you deny access to that action everywhere. See Action Restrictions for more information on hiding an action for a specific area.
To add access exceptions to a role:
- Click the Roles link from the Main Menu. The Roles page opens.
- Select the role for the access exceptions.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Role window opens.
- Select the Access Exceptions tab.
- Expand the section for the access exception: Sections, Columns/Fields or Actions.
- Click the Deny button to deny access or Grant button to grant access. The Deny Role Access or Grant Role Access window opens.
- Select the section/tab, column/field or action to deny or grant. Use Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click to select multiple.
- Click the Select button.
Update or Remove an Access Exception
Once you have set up an access exception, you can change it or remove it.
- Click the Roles link from the Main Menu. The Roles page opens.
- Select the role with the access exception.
- Right-click and select Edit. The Edit Role window opens.
- Select the Access Exceptions tab.
- Expand the section with the access exception to remove or update.
- Select the access exception to remove or update.
- Right-click and select:
- Deny - Changes the access exception to a deny.
- Grant - Changes the access exception to a grant.
- Removes - Deletes the access exception.
Use Element ID's with Actions and Buttons
You can use an action or button's element ID to more easily find the action or button you need to grant or deny. You can configure your URL to show the element ID's next to all buttons and actions. To do this, add ?ShowActionID=Y to the end of the database URL. For example, http://domainname.ungerboeck.net/app85.cshtml?ShowActionID=Y
URL parameters are case sensitive. You must enter ShowActionID using the capitalization shown.
