When you add an account or contact to Momentus Enterprise, a duplicate check is performed to ensure the same account or contact does not already exist. Duplicate checking is performed during the save process and is checked against existing Enterprise data.
If the new account meets one of the following criteria, the Possible Duplicates screen displays:
- Account name matches between the new and existing account.
- Email field matches between the new and existing account.
If the new contact meets one of the following criteria, the Possible Duplicates screen displays:
- First name, last name and company name fields all match between the new and existing contact.
- First name, last name and postal code fields all match between the new and existing contact.
- Email field matches between the new and existing contact.
The Possible Duplicates screen prompts you to either keep the new record you entered and save it as its own account or contact or to select the appropriate existing account or contact. Selecting an existing account or contact opens the Edit Account or Edit Contact screen so you can add any new information.

We do not get this window. We have Duplicate Checking enabled; it works in v19 but doesn't seem to work in v20.

Hi,
Please enter a support ticket so your configuration for this can be reviewed.

I am working on cleaning up duplication at the moment. My issue going forward is how to prevent duplication that is down to user entry variables. I had thought putting something in the search field on the account would address this. e.g.
Company name se7en
One user enters the name seven
One user enters the name se7en
So I have it written correctly in the account name and the incorrect entry in the 'search' but on entering a new account with the name seven no suggestion is put forward and a new account is created.
I would have thought it would make sense to use the 'search' field in the account when considering duplication.
If I used the Legal name for variables would these be checked? The common cause is where users enter the complete name and others enter the acronym

Hi,
The behavior is different when adding contacts or accounts in V20. But, if adding an account we would have expected a duplicate to be found if the spelling was the same in the name field. If this is not what you are seeing can you enter a ticket in your respective region so this can be reviewed in detail?
The Search field or the legal fields are not currently part of the duplicate search in v20, but you can definitely enter this as an enhancement request for future reviews.
Thanks,

Will inactive accounts also be suggested as duplicates?

Hello Alex,
Great question! When creating an account or contact, Active, Prospective, and Inactive Accounts will be suggested as Duplicates. Purged accounts will not be suggested.
Thank you and have a great day!

Is there a way to check duplicates when editing an existing account? If so, how?
Registrant account entered into the system under j.smith@gmail.com. Later, you go to edit it to be j.smith@hotmail.com.
j.smith@hotmail.com already exists but no warning or prompt is given when you try to save the record resulting in duplicate emails.

Hi Pat,
You are correct in that the system does not currently check for duplicate email addresses when editing accounts/contacts in back office. In back office, duplicate checking occurs when adding accounts/contacts to the system. When adding an account or contact in back office, the system checks on a number of fields, including but not limited to email address.
This would be a great idea to add to our Product Ideas Forum so Product Management can review.
