As a brief background, a cookie (in software terms) is information a web site stores on your local
device (PC, tablet, phone, etc.) so that it can reference that information at a later time. Typically, a cookie stores user preferences when using a site. Cookies are used to store very mundane information regarding a user’s site visit or it can store personal information about the user if the user supplies it. It is important to understand what cookies are used by a site and what is stored in those cookies. Many sites are now informing users that cookies are being used and even ask permission to store them. Obviously if the site is dependent on cookies, users that deny their use may not be able to continue using the site.
Because of security concerns, Momentus applications make every effort to minimize, and as much as possible eliminate, the need for using cookies. There is one Momentus application (Registration) that currently uses cookies as well as a cookie for hosted customers. This article provides a complete list of those cookies, the applications they are used in, the information stored, and the duration the cookie is kept.
The use of local storage is considered different from using cookies and is not included in this article.
v20 & 30 Cookies
Application | Name | Data Stored | Encrypted | Duration |
Registration | Session Dependent* | Session ID from MM475_SESSION_INFO table | Yes | 1,440 minutes |

Amazon Web Services Application Load Balancer** | AWSALB | Used by Amazon Web Services to map the user application session to the server. | Yes | 8 hours |
* The identifier for this cookie varies for each session.
**This cookie is maintained by Amazon as part of the Momentus Cloud environment.

I'm not sure that just displaying the below on the registration page is enough to comply with new EU regulations on cookies. Would appreciate some feedback on this. Thanks

Hi Theresa,
We have added an enhancement to our backlog to handle the EU requirements. Please watch the What's New documents for information on when this is rolling out.

Are there any current legal requirements for cookies and asking customers to approve them in the US? Are there any customer facing applications that would require them to approve cookies?

Hi Jason,
Sorry for the delay on this. Here is the information I received from our Vice President of Software Development:
There are no laws within the U.S. (yet) that requires cookie notification and acceptance by a user of a web site. That being said, Europe has already instituted such a law and I’m sure the U.S. will eventually follow.
California, for example, has the CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) that was put into law on January 1st, 2020. For certain types of commercial websites, the collection and selling of PI (Personnel Information) must be done with consent from the user. This law applies to only certain commercial sites.
Europe did pass the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) requirement that controls data collection and making sure permission is granted before doing so.
Ungerboeck’s application comply with GDPR and thus do request permission before collection data. This is optional since it is not a requirement in the U.S. so it must be configured in certain applications. Keep in mind that not all Ungerboeck applications use cookies and thus do not collect information about users in that manner. GDPR does require permission to simply collect information regardless of how it is done (cookies, web forms, etc.) and thus this issue of requesting permission is much bigger than just websites using cookies.
This article lists the cookies used by each Ungerboeck application and describes their purpose.
Hope this helps!
Thanks!
Maggie

It looks like it has been a while since this page was updated. What is the most up to date ist of applications that use cookies and do we have any control of messages displayed?
When I access our ESC as an exhibitor, I do not get any cookie notifications.

Hi Theresa,
The only piece of information stored for an ESC session is the language. This is part of the architecture for the app and required for it to work. No further information is stored via cookie.
The message text is dictionary-enabled. It can be changed to suit your needs by editing the dictionary phrases.

Sam
